Open Studios 2010

Below are some of the special events that took place over the Open Studios 2010 weekends.

It's the 10th Open Studios for Fabrications on Broadway Market, and as always they're offering an eclectic collection of fantastic Xmas treasures, including a special peg loom weaving workshop on Sunday 5th December with Sue Russell, 2 - 4.30pm (£20, including materials and refreshments). As well as this, for every £10 spent you receive a stamp on the Fabrications loyalty card, collect 10 stamps to receive £10 off or a gift voucher. However every Hidden Art visitor during Open Studios (just announce yourself to qualify!) will receive a free stamp!

New to Open Studios this year are bloq.co.uk, who produce award-winning contemporary furniture design. They have up to 25% off all their small products on the 27 - 28 November so pop in and collect a bargain and save the postage.

Visit Noodoll just off Old Street on the 27-28 November and receive a free Xmas gift with every purchase! (also at the East London Design Show from the 3-5 Dec). Take your pick from a range of cute and quirky designer toys, print, stationery, accessories. From £3 - £80.

Cressida Bell will be selling her much talked about 'How to Cook Real Good Cheap Food' poster, a bargain at just £10. Enjoy wine and snacks while you browse Cressida's colourful range of fabrics and lighting, as well as visiting her neighbours at the Clarence Mews Collective Open Weekend.

Visit the new Love My Dog studio in Dalston - your canine companion will be looked after in their doggy crèche, where they can enjoy turkey treats while you shop (mince pies and fizzy are available for humans). Fashionable doggies can also have a free bespoke "measuring service", so they can have their personalized coat pattern ready and kept for them for the future.

Just off Shacklewell Lane are the London Chair Collective, who are holding a raffle with the prize of a free 1 day taster upholstery tuition class. They're also offering free chair delivery within the M25, as well as Christmassy treats in the form of mulled wine and mince pies.

Bantam Knits will be working as normal in their indoor-and outdoor Balham studio on Sunday 28th November (they're also at the East London Design Show on the 4-5 Dec). There will be home-made ginger beer and various nibbles available as well as lots of cups of tea. For each cashmere scarf bought, they're offering a free pair of lambswool wristies.

Michael Ruh Glass create are offering a class in how to 'Blow your own Bauble'. For just £15 you could create your own unique Christmas decoration. They're open every weekend in December before Christmas, and are based near Dulwich.

The company will be showing rugs by Woosa Woosa, sculptures by Secondnature, fabrics by Bird in the Hand, wallpaper and ceramics by Ata Designs and Elli Popp, and chandeliers by Madeleine Boulesteix, as well as its own furniture range.

Customers are also invited to meet the designers during the Hidden Art Open Studios Weekends on 27-28 November and 4-5 December 2010

A private viewing will take place on 28 November at 2.30pm. Drinks, food, music and discounts up to 30% on selected products are on offer. Have a taste of the delicious chocolate by our partner event Niko B Organic Chocolates!

Visit Sue Whimster's Workshop for a Private view / open evening Fri 26th Nov 6.30 - 9 pm with drinks and nibbles.

Sue works in ceramics, creating hand-built animals from the sublime to the ridiculous, with prices ranging from £6.50 to £200. There will also be a Christmas Sale on both weekends.

Roast designs make exquisite hand crafted bespoke chandeliers. They are launching two brand new designs which are yet to be named. Visitors to their studio near West Dulwich on the 27th and 28th Nov can can enter a competition to provide a suitably creative and insightful name for each product - if they use the name you come up with, they'll give you a half price chandelier!

They'll also be welcoming people with mulled wine and mince pies, and it's also a chance to see lots of other artists at their studio space who are taking part in Lambeth Wide Open.

On the 11th-12 December, visit Peckham for the Chocolate Creative Xmas pop-up shop. They will be serving treats, hot drinks and mulled wine while you browse the work of talented designer-makers, ranging from gorgeous handmade eco home wares, such as cushions, mugs, prints, tea towels; to soft toys, jewellery, art, etc…

As part of the event, Chocolate Creative will be offering 5% discount on some products, and will have some discontinued pieces on sale, and Xiang Zeng will be selling her character bears (see left) at a special discount price of £22 instead of the usual price of £26.

Visit Katherine Bree's workshop/ studio in Muswell Hill to buy gorgeous limited edition and one-off designs, and previous seasons sample pieces at a discount. www.katherinebree.com 

Katherine now shares a studio with Sarah Lindsay www.sarahlindsay.info who will also be selling her beautiful contemporary jewellery pieces.  Avenue Mews where the studio is based is a quirky back-street behind Muswell Hill broadway, and has been named ‘the creative hub' of Muswell Hill, with lots of interesting shops.

 The Chocolate Factory in Stoke Newington will be having a private view on Friday 26th November 6.30 - 9.30pm, with a bar serving mulled wine and mince pies.

Helen Rawlinson is very excited to be launching new designs for her lighting collection at the event, plus there will be plenty sale items, with tea towels galore!

Sannapanda is taking part in the Of Cabbages and Kings Christmas Fair in Stoke Newington, with a private view/launch on Friday 26th November, from 6-8pm.
