Jo's textile designs are inspired by the often unappreciated beauty of the urban environment and man-made structures that surround us. Designs are based on the combination of colours, marks and textures created by peeling paint, rusting metal, exposed girders and bleached concrete.

Each piece is individually created using a variety of surface design techniques focusing on the quality of mark and depth of colour that can be achieved when dye is removed from black or dark fabric. Pieces are constructed and deconstructed a number of times, building up layers and ageing and distressing them in the same way that the fabric of a building becomes weathered by the elements.

The nature of the processes employed means that each piece is unique.
